38-year-old Samuel Beam (aka Iron and Wine) is a singer/songerwriter and guitarist from South Carolina. The name Iron & Wine is taken from a dietary supplement named "Beef Iron & Wine" that he found in a general store while shooting a film. For those not familiar with Beam's work, he is best known for the acoustic cover of The Postal Service's "Such Great Heights" or unfortunately from "Flightless Bird, American Mouth" on the prom scene in Twilight.
Beam's whispery falsettos and chugging acoustic melodies are comforting, but he is also able to be diverse and progressive in the folk genre. This is especially true on his 2007 album, The Shepherd's Dog.
